Monticello Police Officer Dies; Becomes Sick While on Duty in City

Monticello Police Officer and Butts County Deputy Zane Perry of Shady Dale died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012 while on duty in Monticello. He was 43 years old.
Officer Perry reportedly was feeling sick Saturday and headed to the police department to park his patrol car and seek medical help. Unfortunately, Officer Perry did not make it. He ran into the wall at the P.D.
CPR was administered on the scene, but Mr. Perry died at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Perry was born and lived in Monroe, until moving to Jasper County 10 years ago. Deputy Perry was a traffic officer for the Butts County Sheriff’s Department in Jackson and worked part-time as a police officer for the Monticello Police Department.
He was a graduate of the Police Academy and a member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge #50 F&AM. His hobby was building and collecting guns.
A son, Steven Zane Perry, and step-father, Dean Skinner, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Weaver Perry of Shady Dale; children, Madison Perry and Jackson Perry, both of Shady Dale; mother, Nancy Malcom Skinner of Monroe; and father, Marion Perry, also of Monroe.
Funeral services were to be held Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Providence Baptist Church in Shady Dale with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Ed Westbrook and Chaplain Joe Buffard were to officiate.
Pallbearers were Jason Taylor, Wayne Parker, Chris Clack, Sibert Malcom, Joseph Pritchett, and Joey Phillips.
Honorary pallbearers were fellow officers from Butts and Jasper Counties.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Zane Perry Fund for Children, c/o Bank of Monticello, P.O. Box 29, Monticello, Ga. 31064.
