Jasper County took to the polls to vote for the Presidential primary race at seven precincts across the county.

Countywide, Newt Gingrich (R) dominated the race with 1,156 votes, 62.59% of Jasper voters chose Gingrich.

Behind him was Rick Santorum (R), with 317 votes, Mitt Romney (R) with 266 votes, Barack Obama (D) with 186 votes, and Ron Paul (R) had 97.

The remaining candidates, Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman, Gary Johnson, Rick Perry, and Buddy Roemer, all on the republican ticket received less than five votes apiece.

These names were all included on the republican ballot, however some of the candidates had dropped out of the race, or had never been top contenders.

President Obama was the only choice on the Democratic ballot.

Jasper’s totals ran concurrent with all of the other counties in Georgia where Gingrich was leading with 47.4% of the statewide totals with 97% of precincts reporting as of press time.

Gingrich was followed by Romney, Santorum, and Paul, according to reports from the Associated Press.
