Shoplifter is Caught on Camera
Last Saturday, March 10, a shoplifter was recorded on camera at Larry’s Four Way, at the corner of Hwy 212 and Jackson Lake Road, shoplifting a pair of boots.
Then on Monday, an employee identified the thief near the propane tank and notified authorities. A deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) who was on patrol on Blue Heron Drive was dispatched to the store where he arrested Mary Ann Cleveland, 39, of Monticello, and charged her with shoplifting.
A search of Ms. Cleveland revealed she was in possession of a narcotic. She has also been charged with possession of hydrocodone and with drugs not in the original container.
The only other criminal activity reported by the JCSO over the past week was a burglary at Loh Road on March 10, where approximately $100 in assorted currency was reported stolen.
Also, during the period of March 6 through 13 the JCSO reported the following arrests:

•Eddie James Trimble, 50, Augusta—driving while license suspended or revoked and passing in a no passing zone.
•Tyree Adarlyn Smith, 29, Madison—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain lane.
•James Barry McDonald, 48, Monticello—driving while license suspended or revoked, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, battery, criminal trespass and cruelty to children.
•Anica English Dillard, 44, Monticello—tail light violation and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
•Jason Carl Eason, 38, Monticello—disorderly conduct.
•Malcolm Lesean Smith, 37, Lithonia—driving while license suspended or revoked.
•Ryan Lee English, 18, Monticello—aggravated assault.
During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 138 calls for service including 47 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 10 each alarm, accidents and subject needs officer, six assist motorist, five juvenile complaint, four speeding auto and music/noise complaint, three domestic, pick up prisoner, threatening/harassing calls and abandoned vehicle.
Also, two each livestock on road, intoxicated driver, mechanical break down, assist invalid, welfare check, trouble unknown, road hazard and trespassing, one each burglary, courtesy ride, need assistance, missing person, extra patrol, four wheeler, child custody case, discharge firearms, entering auto, shoplifter, vandalism of property, persons refuse to leave, VGCSA and attempt to serve warrant.
During this same period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:
•Willie Nelson Benjamin, 49, Monticello—public drunkenness, obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers, open container, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and probation violation.
•Tammy Knight, 54, Covington—stalking and three counts of harassing phone calls.
Also during this period, officers with the MPD responded to 62 calls for service including, 13 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, six music/noise complaint, five escort or convoy, four subject needs officer, three each alarm, assist motorist, accident and short/breath/asthma.
Also, two each dog disturbance misc EMS and private property, one each burglary, domestic, speeding auto, courtesy ride, mechanical bread down, theft by taking, chest pain, welfare check, discharge firearms, entering auto, trouble unknown, threatening/harassing calls, vandalism of property, argument, abandoned vehicle and seizure.
