Piedmont Track Athletes Excel
The Piedmont Academy track teams competed in their first meet of 2012 last week at Brentwood in Sandersville.
Senior Zach Benjamin took first place in the 100 and 200-meter dashes.
“He was a little slower with his times but everyone at the meet was,” said coach Rhett Farmer. “Zach is still a front runner for these two events later this year at state.”
Austin Corley took third place in the shot put competition while Hank Strickland was fourth in the 800-meter run. Bobby Mitchell was fifth in the triple jump to help earn points for the Cougars.
Overall, the Piedmont boys were sixth while the Lady Cougars were eighth.
Farmer said the track athletes would continue working and will compete again March 21 at Gatewood. That event is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
