Shiloh Baseball Debuts With a Win and a Loss

DAVID SORRELLS PITCHES FOR SCA

The inaugural season of Shiloh Christian Academy Knights middle school baseball began last Tuesday, March 6, when they traveled to Griffin to play the Griffin Christian Academy Crusaders.

The team shook off some early nerves which saw them fall behind 4-0 after two innings due to several walks and some mental errors and rallied with two runs in the third and one in the fourth to cut the lead to one.

The Crusaders pushed their lead back to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth off of Knight starter Ady Dahod, but SCA responded with two runs in the fifth, with hits from David Sorrells, Jacob Young, and Dahod to even the score at five.

Griffin Christian took advantage of control problems from relief pitcher, Caleb Compton, to run the lead back to 7-5 after five. The Knights answered with four consecutive hits in the top of the sixth off the bats of Matthew Lawson, Compton, Sorrells, and Sam Mitchell but could only push one run across and fell by the final score of 7-6.

Lawson led a balanced offensive attack with four hits, five runs batted in, and three runs scored. Compton and Will Mitchell also scored three runs each and Sorrells drove in three.

Sorrells also excelled on the mound where he pitched the three inning complete game victory giving up only two runs while striking out eight and walking four. His record is 1-0 for the season.

The Knights are now 1-1 on the year and were to play this week at home on Tuesday, against Peachtree Academy of Covington and travel to Lawrenceville Friday to play Old Suwanee Christian School.

The Knights then return home on Monday, March 19 to play Young Americans Christian School of Conyers. All games begin at 4 p.m.
