Wrecks Abound Tuesday

Jasper County emergency officials stayed busy Tuesday responding to calls of accidents beginning about 7 a.m. and continuing until they had responded to four single-vehicle accidents before 5 p.m.

In the final accident, the victim was airlifted after crashing her 1994 Isuzu Rodeo on Rock Eagle Road (top photo). The car traveled east , and she lost control of her vehicle and traveled 215 feet, then hit the ground and traveled 75 more feet before rotating counterclockwise and going airborne for 80 feet, with the car landing on the top next to a large tree against the driver’s side door. The driver, Jessica Martinez, said she possibly fell asleep, according to the report from the state patrol.

Late Tuesday morning, Sonia Glawson was traveling west on Hwy. 16 east of Monticello when rain began to fall heavily (middle photo). According to the state patrol report, her 2007 Dodge Ram left the highway, struck and embankment and overturned coming to rest on the southern edge of the highway. The patrolman saw water pooling on the road. The tread on her tires was fine, and there was no indication of speeding.

About 7 a.m. Tuesday, Michael Prewitt was driving a 2010 Honda Civic traveling south on Hwy. 212 west near Conley Ditch Road when he said he swerved to miss a deer. His vehicle traveled 382 feet, then hit a ditch and traveled 100 feet, hitting trees above ground level and overturning before hitting another embankment and coming to rest on the passenger side, 484 feet from where he initially swerved.
