Wet Streets Contribute to Accident; Hail Falls

Scattered storms fell across Jasper County Friday afternoon, with thunder, lightning and marble-sized hail reported in Monticello, and places not too far from the city remaining bone dry.
However the rain is to blame at least partly in one accident in Monticello. The streets were wet when it occurred, and while the police were investigating, it stormed pretty strong.
In the accident, a 2009 Ford Edge driven by Lura J. Currie was exiting Mrs. Currie’s driveway on Hillsboro Street near its intersection with South Street. Meanwhile, Monica R. Bostic, driving a 1994 Honda Accord, was traveling south on Hillsboro Street, according to the report from the Monticello Police Department.
As Mrs. Currie exited her driveway, she looked both ways didn’t see anything coming, then spotted her dog who had gotten out. She pulled into the road in the path of Ms. Bostic, and the two vehicles collided, knocking the van partially off the road. Ms. Bostic hit the brakes, but still slid into the back of the van. No one was injured. No citations were issued, although Mrs. Currie was determined to be at fault in the accident.
