Doyle Gordon
Doyle Gordon, 81, of Monticello, died March 19, 2012.
Mr. Gordon was born September 9, 1930 in Jasper County. He was one of six children born to the late Leanna Clark Gordon and Mr. Henry C. Gordon.
Three siblings, Odell Gordon, James “Sunnie” Gordon, and Redia Bell Gordon Appling, preceded him in death.
Mr. Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 28, 1951 where he went on to serve in the Korean War. He later became a Corporal, which is second in command of his platoon and received a medal in 1953.
Mr. Gordon was the leader of his family and second in command to the Lord. He was an active member of Rock Zion C.M.E. Church.
After 32 years of working for Ford Motor Company he dedicated his time to church and his family.
Survivors include four children, Doyle Gordon of Atlanta, Roderick Glenn Gordon of Jackson, Cynthia Gale Gordon of Duluth, and Marie Gaynell Gordon Freeman of Covington; two siblings, Howard Jack Gordon and Frankie Lee Jackson; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He also leaves Robert Sparks, a honorary brother.
A service was held Saturday, March 24 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Monticello. Revs. Prince Morgan and Richard Taylor, officiated. Interment was held at Spike’s Cemetery.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home,Monticello, was in charge of arrangements.
