Diamond Cougars Beat Gatewood

The Piedmont Academy baseball team defeated Gatewood 7-6 in eight innings Wednesday in a game which gave the Cougars the No. 3 seed from Region 1-AA for the state playoffs.

As a result, Piedmont will travel to Christian Heritage in Dalton for a best-of-three series beginning Friday at 5 p.m. The second game will be Saturday at 1 p.m. with a third game, if necessary, set for Monday. Christian Heritage is the No. 2 seed from Region 4-AA.

Piedmont and Gatewood played in a tiebreaker contest to decide the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. John Milledge Academy was the host school for the game in order to have it played on a neutral field. The Cougars and Gators had an identical regular season region record and split their two contests this spring, forcing the tiebreaker.
