Several Burglaries Are Investigated During Week
Seven burglaries or theft by takings have been reported for the period of May 9 through 13, according to information received from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO). The details are as follows:
• On May 13, a resident on Broughton Road in Newborn reported the theft of a Yamaha dirt bike.
• On May 12, a property owner on Crane Court in Turtle Cove reported a forced entry with no details of the items burglarized.
• On May 11, a property owner on Pitts Chapel Road in Newborn reported a forced entry and the theft of a window AC unit, a small safe and various coins.
• On May 10, a resident on Snipe Court in Rolling Wood Cove reported a burglary in which medications were stolen.
• On May 10 a resident on Herring Gull in Rolling Wood Cove reported the theft of medications for a six-year old child.
• On May 9 the Lake View Restaurant on Jackson Lake Road in Martin’s Marina reported a theft of services.

Also, during the period of May 8 through 15 the JCSO reported the following arrests:
• Joel Clint Wood, 39, Monticello—simple battery.
• Teresa Faye Ellington, 42, Monticello—theft by taking.
During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 133 calls for service including 20 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 18 alarm, 11 subject needs officer, eight road hazard, six each accident and mechanical break down, five domestic, juvenile complaint and vandalism of property, four four-wheeler, three each assist motorist, escort or convoy, theft by taking and threatening/harassing calls.
Also, two each live stock on road, intoxicated driver, fire/brush, pick up prisoner/subject, welfare check, property found argument, attempt to serve warrant and stalking, one each fight, speeding auto, intoxicated pedestrian, fire/structure, wanted stolen indicated, misc. ems, overdose, assault, aircraft down, discharge firearms, private property, trouble unknown, checking location, trespassing and abandoned vehicle.
Also during this period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) reported the following arrests:
• Jermangelo Antrell Thomas, 28, Monticello—criminal damage to property in the second degree, reckless conduct, cruelty to children in the third degree and probation violation.
• Ray Banks, 54, Monticello—probation violation.
• Mario Bernard Thurman, Jr., 19, Monticello—driving while license suspended or revoked, no insurance, alteration of license plates, use of license plate to misrepresent identity of vehicle, operation of vehicle without current plate and removing or affixing license plate with intent to conceal.
• Edward Lee Williams, 43, Monticello—theft by shoplifting.
• Ramon Arturo Jackson, 35, Monticello—disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
During this same period officers with the MPD responded to 89 calls for service including 44 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, six each alarm escort or convoy and mechanical break down, five subject needs officer, three vandalism of property, two each assist motorist and juvenile complaint.
There was also one each fight, domestic, courtesy ride, live stock on road, improperly parked vehicle, misc ems, rape assault, trouble unknown, music/noise complaint, threatening/harassing calls, road hazard, trespassing, argument and persons refuse to leave.
