Mr. Salmon grew up near Rome, where his late father worked on the maintenance crew at Berry College. He then transferred to Southern Tech in Marietta, where he graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Mr. Salmon moved to Central Georgia in 1988 with his job as a loss prevention risk engineering consultant for various types of occupancies with Industrial Risk Insurers. In 2002, he left GE to manage the property health care risk engineering division for Zurich North America.

From 2005 to 2011, he had his own company which did risk consulting for various companies. In 2011, he accepted a risk consulting position with one of the contractors he had done work with over the years. He has also been involved in Jasper County with past Land Use Planning Committees, served on the Citizens Advisory Board for Monticello when he lived within the city limits in the mid-1990s, and in 2009 was appointed by the Jasper County Board of Commissioners to serve on the Jasper County Water and Sewer Authority where he volunteers as its System Operator and Treasurer.

Mr. Salmon has resided in Jasper County for 19 years with his wife of 22 years, Sharon Edwards Salmon, who grew up in Jasper County, graduated salutatorian from Jasper County Comprehensive High School in 1987, and Cum Laude from Georgia College in 1991 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. They have three children—Craig M. who turned 20 in April and then graduated in May from Toccoa Falls College with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies; Sonya, 16, who just finished her junior year at Shiloh Christian Academy; and Jason who will be four next month.

Mr. Salmon, who is also known to many as Coach Craig, coached basketball and baseball for 10 years with the Jasper County Recreation Department where he not only taught the fundamentals, but let the children know that they were valuable, acceptable and loved. He is a member of Shiloh Baptist Church at the intersection of Hwy. 142 and Post Road, where he and his wife serve in various capacities.

Mr. Salmon said that he felt led to run as a servant leader for the District 4 Commissioner’s seat and believes:

•That Jasper County is a wonderful place to live and raise a family and sees much opportunity for the future of the county; however, the leaders and the community need to come together peacefully and develop a “clear” vision for the future of the county.

• That the elected officials need to be accountable and good stewards of the resources entrusted to them by the people of Jasper County.

• That Jasper County has some challenges; however, through fostering collaboration and cooperation between the various entities involved, working together toward a common vision and establishing a plan, these challenges can be overcome.

• That we should try as much as we can to live in peace with each other, and by listening and respecting other’s ideas, groups and individuals with differing opinions can usually come together and find common ground to work toward.

• That Jasper County has many great resources which we need to improve utilization of in order to keep our children involved in positive environments, keep our adults active, and help bring tourism and jobs to help our tax base while maintaining our rural environment as much as possible.

Mr. Salmon shares how he had a life-changing event at 11 years old when he found out he had an infection in his heart and the only hope was a heart transplant. He realized that in order for him to get a new heart, someone else had to die; however, he would still have to accept the donated heart. He was informed in Romans 3:23, that the infection in his heart was sin, and in Romans 6:23 that the wages of sin was death (eternal separation from God), but the FREE GIFT of God (Jesus’ Heart) was and is eternal life in Jesus our Lord. John 3:16 let him know how much he was loved and Romans 10:9 told him that there was a promise of salvation if he believed and confessed Jesus as Lord. The infected heart was not his physical heart, but his spiritual heart.

Mr. Salmon quotes Stephen Grellet (1773 – 1855), a Quaker Missionary, who stated, “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any Human Being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.”

Mr. Salmon said he “looks forward to the opportunity of serving the people of District 4 and Jasper County and will be meeting and talking with you over the coming weeks.
