Rodeo Weekend Is Fun for All

The Shady Dale rodeo was held last weekend, with large crowds attending the event both Friday and Saturday nights with excellent weather conditions.

In addition, on Saturday, the Shady Dale Community Club held its annual “Round-up Festival” which attracted many, especially near quitting time, as the afternoon parade pretty much winds up the festival. A rodeo parade would not be complete without horses and clowns, and this one certainly had both.

This was the 29th year for the rodeo sponsored by Jasper Lodge #50 F&AM and Walton Lodge #200 F&AM which uses proceeds to benefit numerous charities.

The winners for the various rodeo events were determined by the best scores for those that competed, whether they competed in front of the crowd either night, or if they didn’t get to ride until the wee hours, competing during the “slack.” Participants are randomly “drawn” for when they compete. So, the winner a spectator cheered for one night or the other may not really be who came out on top.

The winners, their score, and their prizes, include:

Bareback Bronc Riding—Joshua Michael Crager, 81, $876; Andrew Smith, 75, $657; Blake Arp, 74, $438; Kyle Kiser, Zane Seales, 70 each, $109 each.

Bull Riding—Jay Miller, 86, $2,158; Rowdy Rice, 82, $1,439.

Saddle Bronc—Buck Johnson, 75, $2,190.

Tie-Down Roping—Justin Thigpen, 8.6, $1139; Daryl Matthews, 9.0, $943; Zeb Chapman, 9.2, $746; Cory Kirk, 9.4, $550; Shane Overby, 9.5, $354, and Bradley Bullard, 9.9, $196.
