Doug Luke Seeks District 5 Commission Seat

DOUG LUKE

Doug Luke of Newborn has qualified for the District 5 County Commission seat on the Republican ticket.

Mr. Luke is a 10-year resident of Jasper County and is a graduate of Rockdale County High School. He has worked with Action Electrical and Mechanical Contractors as a Millwright Foreman for 15 years. He and his wife, Kim, who is employed with Jasper Health Services are the proud parents of two daughters, Megan and Tori. They are members of Shiloh Baptist Church where Doug serves as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Mr. Luke states “My motivation for running for county commissioner is that I believe Jasper County is in need of positive leadership that stresses cooperation and communication among its leaders and a commitment to serving the people of the county as a whole. My desire is to help bring unity to the Board and help put policies in place that bring prosperity to our families and community.”

He adds, “I feel that a major role of the Board is not only to preserve the jobs that currently exist but to help establish policies that attract new businesses which provide more jobs and much needed revenue to our county.”

His goals for the term include:

•Strengthening public safety—Local government should be as limited and fiscally conservative as possible, but it is essential to provide full funding and support for the safety of its citizens, meaning law enforcement, fire protection and emergency medical services should have everything they need to be the highest quality departments they can possibly be.

•Improving roads—One of the few hands-on jobs of the Board of Commissioners is to develop a road program that makes the most of available monies while serving the most citizens and highest traffic areas. This requires paving and widening roads in higher population areas first and instituting proper maintenance programs throughout the county in a timely and responsive manner.

•Strengthening alliances with neighboring counties and regional authorities—The recent success of the Four County Development Authority in bringing the Baxter Medical project to our area is a great example of how tearing down barriers such as county lines can be beneficial to us all, if we can join with successful neighbors such as Newton, Walton, and Morgan counties. The projected T-SPLOST transportation project has great potential for gaining much needed funding for road maintenance and repair.

Mr. Luke adds, “We must learn to work through our differences of opinion and come together with sensible, cost-effective measures to ensure that the taxpayers of Jasper County are getting the best possible representation for their tax dollars.”

In his 15 years in the construction industry, Mr. Luke has had the opportunity to work through many difficult but rewarding projects all over the Atlanta area and he looks forward to doing the same here in Jasper County.

“I would consider it a great honor to represent the people of Jasper County and especially those of District 5. Vote Republican Primary July 31st.”
