Crime, Like Weather Seems Light this June

According to recent weather reports, temperatures hereabouts have been quite mild, not having reached 90 degrees before this week. Likewise, during the period of June 12 through 19, crime and arrests were down.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) only reported the two following incidents:

•On June 15 a resident on Church Street in Shady Dale reported the theft of a set of 26 inch custom rims and tires.

•On June 14 a resident on Hwy. 83 in Shady Dale reported the theft of 15 gallons of gasoline from their vehicle.

Anyone with information concerning these two incidents are encouraged to contact the JCSO at 706-468-4912, or call the anonymous tips line at 706-468-tips. Also, during the period mentioned above no arrest warrants were on file in the county and the JCSO reported only seven arrests, as follows:

•Quincy Donte Clemons, 33, Monticello—hold for warrants in Rockdale County.

•Tony Alexander Nash, 30, Newborn—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain lane.

•John Angus Weaver, 36, Hampton—Jasper County Probate Court failure to appear bench warrant.

•Steven Wade Hardy, 22, Griffin—disorderly conduct.

•Eddie Charles Carthan, 60, Scottsdale—failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Jack Thomas McCloud, 23, Monticello—hold for warrants in Gwinnett County.

•Jeffrey Donald Cobb, 35, Conyers — probation violation.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 113 calls for service including 20 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, eight assist motorist, six each subject needs officer and road hazard, five each alarm, accident, theft by taking, threatening/harassing calls and 911 hang up, four each courtesy ride, mechanical breakdown and trouble unknown, three each pick up prisoner/subject and welfare check.

Also, two each fight, domestic, escort or convoy, child custody case, argument, abandoned vehicle and test call, one each dog disturbance, speeding auto, livestock on road, intoxicated driver, hit and run, be on the look out, shortness of breath, missing person, extra patrol, juvenile complaint, dead on arrival, vandalism of property, attempt to serve warrant identity fraud/theft and transport of patient.

Also, during this same period the Monticello Police Department (MPD) did not report any arrests, however they did report responding to 59 calls for service.

In addition, during this period the Department of Natural Resources reported the arrest of Keith Allen Conner, 48, of Covington, and charged him with boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to obey regulatory marker.
