Howard Jack “Pop” Gordon

Howard Jack “Pop” Gordon, 84, of Monticello, died June 14, 2012.

Mr. Gordon, also known as “Jack Man” was born January 11, 1928 to the late Henry and Leana Gordon. At a young age, Mr. Gordon joined Rock Zion C.M.E. Church where he later became a long time member and deacon. He was a proud Mason for many years.

Mr. Gordon married Susie Mae Ridley, on May 19, 1951. Last month marked the couple’s 61st wedding anniversary.

Mr. Gordon was a dedicated employee of Feldspar Corporation and retired after 30 years of service. He was also later employed with the U.S. Forest Service for several years. After his many years of employment, due to failing health, “Pop” decided to retire and devote his time to family and friends.

Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Odel and Doyle Gordon, and a sister, Redia Bell Appling.

In addition to his wife, survivors include five children, Gloria Sanders of Covington, Terry Gordon of Lithonia, Stanley Gordon, of Monticello, Glenda and Angela Gordon, both of Monticello; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Rodney, Matia, Shekila, Antoine, Kelly Terry, Jr., Felicia, Alexis and Marcese; two great-grandchildren, Makiya and Quiarus; a sister, Frankie L. Jackson of Monticello; and a host of nieces nephews, and devoted in-laws.

A service was held Wednesday, June 20 at St. James A.M.E. Church in Monticello. Rev. Benjamin Ridley, officiated. Interment was in Spikes Cemetery in Monticello.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 923 Funderburg Drive, Monticello was in charge of arrangements.
