BASKETBALL PLAYERS RUN DRILLS AT TEAM CAMP

The Monticello Hurricane basketball team was very busy during June, participating in Greene and Henry County Summer League, and also travelled to Team Camp USA basketball camp in Tallahassee Fla.

The team had a great showing at these summer league play. The players conducted two fund raisers and raised over $1,800, which enabled them to take part in these events.

Coach Ernest Scott said, “I want to thank those that aided in making the fund raisers successful, and I also want to thank the basketball boosters for their support in making this summer league play a success for our students; they also helped in the fund raising.

“For the past 10 years TEAM Camp USA has provided my teams with excellent facilities, outstanding staff and great competition.

“Most importantly, the players always want to return the next summer. The team left the camp feeling that the competition helped us get better and prepared us for the upcoming season.

“The competition was great, the food was outstanding, the coaching staff was well organized and helpful and the schedule was nicely balanced, giving teams the opportunity for lots of competition during the day, but also time for team bonding and fellowship in the evenings,” according to an announcement from Coach Scott.

“I can’t thank Dr. [Mike] Newton, the Board [of Education], and Principal [Robyn] Mullis, and our Athletic Director Chris Jenkins enough for their support for allowing us to take our team out of state to this team camp.

“I also want to thank Rev. [Rufus] Whitlock and Tyrone Dennis for their support this summer with the kids because they have put in many hours with these young men. I really appreciate what they have done for the team.”
