NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY

The Monticello News and Jordan Funeral Home are co-sponsoring a Nature Photography Contest. This year’s photos will be judged in four categories-—wildlife, flowering plants (native species only), landscape, and people and nature. The last category can feature photos which show people and man-made objects in nature. The Grand Prize will be a Canon Rebel T3i (18mp) Digital Camera with 18-135 mm lens and accessory kit (a retail value of $1,200).
Other prizes will be presented for first prize in each category. The deadline for this year’s photo contest is Thursday, Nov. 8. Any amateur photography who lives in Jasper County or who subscribes to The Monticello News may enter. Photos must be taken in Georgia or a state bordering Georgia. Photographs will be judged by a panel of judges who determine if the photo fits the category (are the flowers native to the county?), and the quality of the photo.
Judges use a set of criteria to judge the photos and the ones with the top numbers win. Phillip Jordan, premier nature photographer, took the photo above of a deer in the river. He is willing to offer pointers to interested amateur photographers, and may even hold a class if there is enough interest. For more information, contact Mr. Jordan at 706-468-6303 or call The News, 706-468-6511.
