Bobby Hugh Sauls
Bobby Hugh Sauls, 75, died Thursday, July 26, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Sauls was born in the Gladesville Community of Jasper County on April 8, 1937. His parents were the late George Grover Sauls and Sara Grace Niblett Sauls. After his father’s death, Bobby was raised by his mother and grandfather, the late Rev. James Isaac Niblett. He was a graduate of Monticello High School where he held the rushing record for many years for the Hurricane football team.
Mr. Sauls was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church. His life revolved around his love of Christ, his family, and music. He was an ordained Minister of Music for Enon Baptist Church for 30 years, Smithboro Baptist Church for 15 years, and Hillsboro Baptist for three years. He and Les Steele traveled to numerous nursing home facilities ministering to the patients with their music.
Mr. Sauls retired from the Feldspar Corporation after 39 years. He coached girls’ softball for 15 years. He loved sports, hunting and cooking wild game. He loved helping people by cutting their grass and by taking food and firewood to their homes. He would drive the food baked by Mrs. Ethel Jones all over Jasper County, unofficially becoming the first “Meals on Wheels” in our community. After retirement, Mr. Sauls worked for Jordan Funeral Home.
He was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Martha Sauls, Mary Sauls, George Sauls, Ted Sauls, and Loraine Sauls Dumas.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, JoAnn Brooks Sauls of Monticello; his children, Lesia Sauls, Denise Sauls Parker and husband, Wesley; Bobbi Sauls, and Joel Sauls, all of Monticello; grandchildren, Anna Parker and Will Parker of Monticello; and brother and sisters-in-law, James and Kathrine Sauls and Margie Sauls Roland of Monticello.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 29, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Monticello Baptist Church. Interment will be held in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery. Drs. Robert Whitmire and Jeff Pangle will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Will Parker, Jimmy Sauls, Todd Sauls, Scotty Dumas, Sidney Dumas, Scott Sauls, Jeff Holloway, Danny Martin, and Joe McMichael. Honorary pallbearers are Dick Clayton, Rev. Terry Glawson, Herb Hickey, Kevin Hooper, Bobby Jacobs, Dean Rabitsch, and Charles Harper.
