Cougars Move Into Second Week of Preseason Work

Piedmont Academy football coach Rhett Farmer said he was pleased with how the first week of official preseason work progressed for his team.

“We were able to evaluate some personnel,” the coach said. “The heat has been rough. We had to push back practice a couple of days to 7 at night. That did allow us to do a lot of teaching although we were not able to get used to the heat. Still, we were able to get a lot accomplished in starting to see who might play where for us.”

The practice schedule looks to provide more of the same for the Cougars this week. The players still will continue practicing in shorts, shoulder pads and helmets.

“We’re still able to do some contact as we use quick whistles,” Farmer said. “Our offensive and defensive lines are our biggest question marks. We are young there and we have to see who will be able to step in and help out.”

Special teams will likely be a priority this week as well, the coach said.

Full contact work is set to begin Aug. 6. The team will then scrimmage Brookwood Friday, Aug. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Cougar Field.
