Four Are Named to All-Region

Four varsity Hurricane baseball players, Brady McMichael, A.J. Thomas, Kevin Camp, and Patrick Clement, were named to the All-Region team for the 2012 season.
Catcher Clement has a .332 batting average with 14 RBI. He threw out 61 percent of runners attempting to steal a base.
Head Coach Chris Jenkins said, “[Pat is] probably the best defensive catcher in the region. He saves runs with his arm and his quickness behind the plate. Was one of the team’s most consistent hitters early in the season.”
Pitcher Kevin Camp had a .346 average, one HR, and 22 RBI on the season in the box with a 2.12 ERA on the mound.

“Kevin probably would have led the region in HR’s were our field not so deep in left and left-center. He made tremendous strides on the mound this year, which allowed us to have one of the best one-two pitching combinations in the region,” according to Jenkins.
McMichael, another pitcher had a .378 average at the plate with 17 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. He rounded out the season with a 1.98 ERA, and one save.
“Brady really focused on long-tossing early in the season, which strengthened his arm and allowed him to become one of the best pitchers in the region during the second half of the season. He also was our leadoff hitter, leading the team in batting average and on-base percentage,” said Coach Jenkins.
Mr. McMichael will be pitching for NCCAA Div. II National Champion, Toccoa Falls College, this year.
Outfielder Thomas earned a .362 average with one HR, and 25 RBI for the season. He was the only player to be selected to the All-Region team all four years, which is a rare feat. He also led, or tied, for the team lead in home runs all four of those years.
Jenkins commented, “of all the great players that I’ve had the pleasure of coaching here, he is probably one of the top three or four all-around ballplayers. He will be attending Reinhardt College, on a full football scholarship this fall.”
