Piedmont Runners To Begin Season

Piedmont Academy’s cross country program will begin the new season Saturday, Aug. 25, in Loganville.

“We have almost doubled our number of team members from last season,” coach Traci Brady said. “We now have enough varsity boys and girls to compete as a team at the region level this year.”

Logan Partenza, Lucy Strickland and Lanie King are the program’s seniors for 2012 with juniors including Austin Bass, Lynn Marie Edwards, Emmie Kelly, and Savannah McGinnis.

Andrew Mitchell is a sophomore on the varsity along with freshmen Matti Smith, Bridgette Phillips, and Chris Coogler. Eighth grader Mack Brady will also run for the varsity in 2012.

“We have been training all summer so we hope to be better prepared for the new season,” Brady said.

“Alan Black brings a great deal of knowledge to our team as assistant coach. He has really been working with our runners on speed and endurance. We are both excited we have so many young runners interested in the sport.”

Piedmont will compete at Loganville Christian Academy Saturday at 9 a.m.

Middle School runners this fall will include seventh graders Chase Tweedell, Alina Jablonski, and Anne Marie Hildebrant. Kirley Holifield is a sixth grader this season. Gracie Black, Owen Brady, Mari Jablonski, Mackenzie Johnston, Garrett King, and Emily Mills comprise the elementary school program as fifth graders.
