Lois Minter, Sr.

Lois Minter, 95, died August 24 at The Retreat Nursing Home in Monticello.

Mr. Minter was born March 19, 1917, to the late Sam and Hiley Minter. He had three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Minter married Willie Lee “Sal” McDowell on the third Sunday of September, 1942. To this union of holy matrimony, eight children were born.

Mr. Minter worked at the Lake Saw Mill Company and the Georgia Pacific Corporation. He had a green thumb for growing flowers. His hobbies were gardening and rabbit hunting.

Mr. Minter desired to do what was right in the eyesight of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He united with Sardis Christian Methodist Episcopal Church at a very early age in life. There, he served faithfully until his health started to decline. Once his health made it necessary for him to no longer drive, he began to fellowship with the Maddox Chapel Missionary Baptist Church family in Hillsboro. Mr. Minter loved his family.

Mr. Minter was preceded in death his sweetheart of 64 beautiful years, two children, Baby Boy Minter and Hiley Sue Hamm; brothers, Sulester, Rufus and Hugh Banks Minter; sister, Geneva McDowell.

Survivors include six children, Lois “Dude” Minter Jr., Willie Mae Graves, Charlie Minter, Eubee Minter, Roger Minter and Evangelist Sharon Campbell; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a sister, Mildred McDowell, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services are scheduled Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Springfield Baptist Church, 837 Hillsboro Street, Monticello, with burial in Sardis Cemetery. Preston Campbell will officiate.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
