Middle School Lady Cougars Win Three
The successful season for the Piedmont Academy Middle School softball team has continued during recent outings.
Piedmont defeated Central Fellowship 14-5 Monday as O’Neil Sealy earned the win, working the first two innings with three strikeouts. Lucy Tuggle also pitched two innings and recorded four strikeouts in the win.
Offensively, it was once again a team effort the Lady Cougars.
Ashley Johnston drove in two runs while scoring one. Bailyn Whitaker had a double, three RBI, a run scored and drew a walk.
Baylee Keesee was 1-for-2 with a double with two RBI while teammates Lauren Mosley and Sealy were both 1-for-2 with an RBI.
“We have started to hit the ball a lot better the last few games,” said coach Dan Funt. “I like to see some extra base hits which we are hitting more of. We continue to play good defense and pitch well.”

Also in Monday’s win, Madison Burnham drew two walks and scored a run while Gracie Hunt had two walks with two runs. Ivy English (walk, RBI and run), Mattie Johnston (two walks, two runs), Hailey Hooper (walk, run, RBI), Kirkley Holifield (walk, RBI), Summer Strother (1-for-2, one run), Rylee Owens (walk, run), MaKennah Holifield (run), Cassidy Cook (walk) and Maddie Mooneyham (walk) all contributed.
Piedmont also defeated Briarwood 9-1 Saturday as Mosley went five innings to earn the victory while striking out seven and giving up just one hit and one earned run. Mosley also had a homer in the contest and finished with two RBI.
Sealy was 2-for-2 with a triple and two
runs scored while Keesee had an RBI double. Tuggle finished the game 1-for-2 with a run scored. Cook also went 1-for-2 with two runs while Holifield added an RBI double. Ashley Johnston was 1-for-2 with a run scored with Burnham finishing 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Middle School Lady Cougars also defeated Windsor 6-4 last Thursday. Mosley earned the win working 3.1 innings while Sealy earned the save after pitching the final 2.2 innings allowing just one run.
Holifield had a double and RBI to lead the office.
A complete game performance by Sealy helped give Piedmont an 11-1 victory August 21 against Flint River. Sealy allowed only one hit while striking out 12 in the win.
Keesee had a homer and scored two runs with two RBI and a walk. Tuggle was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Burnham was 1-for-2 with a double, run and RBI. Mosley finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Holifield was 1-for-3 with a run and RBI while Whitaker was 1-for-1 with two RBI and a walk. Mooneyham finished 1-for-1 with a run scored while English drew a walk and scored a run.
“We still have areas that we need to improve on,” Funt said. “We have a little break, but we will have some very good teams coming up. I hope we continue to work hard and get better.”
