Joan Bell Runs for District 4 Commissioner

Joan C. Bell qualified as a Democrat for Jasper County Commission, District 4. She will face Craig Salmon, the Republican nominee, in the general election on November 6.

Mrs. Bell and her husband, William, have always lived in Georgia. Mr. Bell moved back to Jasper County with his wife, Joan, in 1999. The Bells are the parents of three young adults and one teenage granddaughter. They attend Griggs Chapel A.M.E. Church.

Mrs. Bell is a retired educator from the DeKalb County School System. She retired after 33 years in the public school system. Her last assignment was at Redan High School in the English department. She is now an instructor with Southern Crescent Technical College in the Adult Education department, a position she has held for the past 10 years.

Mrs. Bell has been an avid volunteer since she became a resident of this county. She is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Jasper. She was honored by being named the Citizen of the Year in 2004. She has served on several boards and committees such as Chamber of Commerce and Board of Assessors.

Presently, she is a board member on Family Connection, Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS), and Development Authority of Jasper County. She is involved with Team Jasper, Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and recently appointed to the Jasper County Board of Education Advisory Council and Board of Commission Ethics Committee.

Mrs. Bell stated, “I have been blessed in many ways after retiring. Volunteering has become a passion for me. Giving back to one’s community is an inspiring opportunity.

“My vision for Jasper County is to improve quality of life by supporting efforts to increase local jobs, a progressive work force, and the best education for our future. When companies come to Jasper County, I want our citizens prepared for the demands of the workforce. I have dedicated my second career to Adult Education because being an educated and informed community means strong involvement.

“I have an eminent desire to be a good steward of our taxes by being resourceful as well as responsible. I know that when there is united leadership with a realistic vision we can accomplish our goals. I want to be a participant of progressive effective solutions for Jasper County.

“My desire is to meet as many citizens in District 4 as possible either individually or in groups/meetings. I will put forth great effort in making sound, intelligent, and achievable decisions, based on community input, for the betterment of Jasper County as well as District 4. I plan to be a part of the solution as I serve on the Jasper County Board of Commission by working with the other Commissioners, proving to be a valuable asset as we represent the citizens,” she said.
