‘Canes Dominate at Social Circle

LANE THOMAS (7) RUNS THE BALL, JORDAN STONE (12) DEFENDS

The ‘Canes traveled to Social Circle last Friday and defeated the Red Devils 32-7, to bring their season record to 1-1.

They also had a total of 490 yards on offense, the most they have posted in over 21 years.

Head Football Coach Eddie Roberts said, “We made some modifications in our offense and went back to some of the stuff we have done in previous years. We’re still trying to run the option, but doing it from different formations.

“We also did some toss sweeps taking advantage of our speed. We executed better on offense and were able to get on the corner. But we still had some crucial turnovers that wasted opportunities to score. One of them was a dropped touchdown pass.

“However, one thing I was proud of was that we had two drives of over 70 yards that resulted in touchdowns that enabled us to eat up a lot of clock. Overall I thought we executed well with only three days to practice a new offense.”

The team will play their first home game this Friday night at Rose Bowl Field versus neighboring Jackson, another non-region foe who plays in Region 2AAA.

Coach Roberts said, “The main thing we’re doing is to try to continue and get better. Although we played better last week we still made a lot of mistakes and have a lot of work to do to get ready for Jackson.

“Our biggest concern is ourselves. Jackson has two defensive tackles who have already committed to Division One schools and they have a terrific running back. They’ll be very tough.”
