Middle School Lady Cougars Lose Two

The Piedmont Academy Middle School softball team dropped two contests in recent days leaving coach Dan Funt hoping for improvement.

The Lady Cougars lost to Flint River 3-2 on the road in Woodbury last Thursday. O’Neil Sealy worked five innings, allowed three earned runs while striking out 11. Sealy was also 1-for-3 at the plate.

Also contributing offensively were Lucy Tuggle, who went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, and Baylee Keesee, who finished 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.

Madison Burnham was 1-for-3 while Gracie Hunt was 1-for-2 with a run.

The Middle School Lady Cougars also lost to Windsor at home, Saturday 9-0. Sealy once again handled the pitching duties and recorded five strikeouts. Sealy, Keesee and Burnham each had one hit.

“We are on a little losing skid,” Funt said. “We just aren’t doing any facet of the game particularly well. We should have won the Flint River game. Any time you give up three runs or less, you have to find a way to win.

“Windsor was close until the last inning. We had a few defensive mistakes and then they connected on a pitch that went into the gap. Before we knew it, the score was 9-0. We have to find a way to get back on track. I know we will finish strong.”
