James M. Atkins
James M. Atkins, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Atkins was born in Rome, to the late Jesse Frank Atkins, Sr. and Vera Sanders Atkins. He moved to Monticello in 1941. He was an active member of the Monticello First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Atkins was an avid hunter and an honorary member of the Apt-To-Miss Hunting Club. Before retirement, Mr. Atkins was a supervisor for the Enterprise Aluminum Plant in Eatonton for 42 years.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Mae Davis Atkins; grandson, Brad Benton; brothers and sisters, Clyde Atkins, Frank Atkins, Jr., Mozelle Atkins, Queen Kemp, Ramey Malone, Opal Harper, and Helen Cook.
Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Chris W. Atkins of Monticello; daughters and son-in-law, Judy and Don Hill of Lake Oconee, and Kathy Atkins of Monroe County; step-children, Becky Greene of Macon and Phil Sparks of Eatonton; step-grandchildren, Ashley Fincher, Coleman Greene, Dylan Greene, Tiffany Suggs, and Phillip Sparks, Jr.; step-great-grandchildren, Landon Russell, Chandler Russell, Malorie Fincher, and Kristen Suggs; and brother and sister, Sanders Atkins of Silver Creek, and Hilda Moore of Rome; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Monticello First United Methodist Church, with interment in West View Cemetery. Dr. John Brown will officiate.
Pallbearers are Jerry Tarlton, Raymond Boyd, Johnny Wall, Bill Duncan, and Allen Stewart.
The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Monticello First United Methodist Church, 651 College Street, Monticello, GA 31064.
