Lady Cougars Prepare for Post Season

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars defeated Arlington 16-5 last Thursday in the final regular season region contest on the softball diamond.

Piedmont finished the region schedule with an 8-2 mark and will enter the state tournament as a No. 2 seed.

Kacy Swart was 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and three runs. Swart also pitched the final two innings in relief of Carla Martin. Swart had one strikeout with Martin totaling three.

Offensively, Emily Hammonds was 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI while Cheyenne Galloway was 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI. Martin was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Piedmont will host an opening round of state series Monday. The matchup will be a best two-of-three format.

Coach Danny Camp said a doubleheader against Brentwood has been added to the schedule for Thursday on the road at 4 p.m. Camp didn’t want his team to have such a long layoff in between the end of the regular season and the start of the state tournament.

The team was scheduled to play Tuesday at Gatewood in Eatonton, but the field conditions had not improved enough after Monday’s rain.
