‘Canes Drop First Region Game
The ’Canes held their own for a time versus undefeated Northeast Macon last Friday night and it was 0-0 at halftime, but they had to keep their defense on the field too long, and eventually fell 24-0 to the first-place team in Region 4-AA.
The loss gave the ’Canes a 1-3 record overall and a 0-1 record in the region, being edged out of last place by Crawford County with an 0-5 record overall and an 0-2 in region.
Head Football Coach Eddie Roberts said, “Our biggest problem was that we couldn’t move the ball on offense and we didn’t cross the midfield mark until late in the game.

“This was against a team that has averaged giving up only three points a game this year. Our defense played well. They had the ball inside our 30 yard line two times and we stopped them. We also stopped them on five other occasions on fourth down, but we had to keep our defense on the field too long which gave them the momentum.”
The ‘Canes have an opportunity to get themselves back in the region race tomorrow night, Oct. 5, when they travel to Butler to take on Taylor County.
The Vikings are 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the region due to 15-0 loss versus Lamar County. Their two wins were against single A schools Schley County and Central in Talbotton.
Coach Roberts said, “We’ll have to play a lot better offensively to win. They have two good defensive tackles and a good fullback. Our offense will have to get much better in order to get the job done.”
