‘Canes Fall to Taylor Co.

The ’Canes suffered a 47-0 shut out versus region rival Taylor County last Friday night.
Head Football Coach Eddie Roberts said, “It seemed as if we weren’t ready to play. I didn’t see any emotion, which is not indicative of our team. Taylor County executed well and ran to the ball well, and we didn’t. Although I thought Tra Jackson performed well in his first start at the quarterback position, and played well on defense as well.”
The loss gives the ‘Canes a 1-5 record overall and a 0-2 record in the region.
Besides taking the loss, Kyle Camp and Quincy Standifer both sustained injuries making them doubtful for this Friday’s game. On the flip side, Chris Anglin is expected to return from the injured list.
Things don’t get any better for the ‘Canes. Tomorrow night, October 12, they are scheduled to host the Lamar County Trojans, who sit in first place in the region.
They are also undefeated and ranked number six in the state in the AA classification.
Coach Roberts said, “They are a very talented team with tremendous speed and they play hard. Their backfield has a member of the 4 X 100 meter relay state champions team from last year in track. They also went to the third round of the state playoffs last year and all their skilled players are back, so it will be a challenge.”
Dairy Queen is hosting Spirit Night for the ’Canes this Friday, Oct. 12. For each food purchase, customers should have their receipts placed in the purple boxes at DQ. For each receipt that is submitted a portion of the total will be donated to the athletic booster club for equipment.
