Lady Canes Come Up Short of State Finals

The Lady ’Canes just missed the state finals last Wednesday when they lost two in a row to Bacon County, the first 7-3 and the second 5-3.

Taylor Garrett pitched both games and earned six strike-outs between the two games, and allowed no runs after the second inning in the first game. The second game was tougher on the Ladies and in the end, Garrett took both losses after battling each batter and the officials which made several questionable calls and allowed the pitcher a small, over the plate only strike zone.

In game 1, the hitting was led by Janee Chapman and Garrett. Chapman had an in the park home run at her first at bat, and ended the day 2-for-4 with a single. Garrett, also 2-for-4 had a double and a single. Destiny Glawson added a beautiful triple in the third. Morgan Studdard had two singles, C.J. Jackson had a walk, Kaitlin Needham had a double, and Beth Hart was hit by a pitch and walked.

There were several awesome defensive plays made, by Keausha Warren and Hart. Also two sliding catches were made by Jackson in the sixth, and Glawson at short stop.

In the second game, the Lady Canes tried to rally and win one of two and came up short after seven.

The hitting was led by Chapman who went 4-for-4 on the day. Aaliyah Barnes was 3-for-4 with two singles and a walk, Garrrett had two singles and a walk. Glawson added a double while Studdard, KeAusha Warren, and Hart all added a single.

There were several defensive stops made, one hard-hit line drive back to Garrett on the mound, a great tag by Studdard, and a diving catch by Needham.
