‘Canes Beat taylor Co. 7-0
Not only did the ‘Canes pick up a win last Friday, they also recorded their first region win by defeating the Crawford County Eagles 7-0.
The game was also a defensive victory for the ‘Canes as it was the first time they had shut out another team since 2006.
The ‘Canes finally got on the score board late in the third quarter when Pat Clement scored a touchdown on a six-yard run after a long drive, and after having converted on a fourth down.
Head Football Coach Eddie Roberts said, “We drove the ball all night. It was the penalties and the fumbles that kept us from scoring earlier. Earlier on we had the ball inside their 10 yard line and killed ourselves with penalties. However, we did play better, and our offensive line executed. Our defense, led by Quincy Standifer, played well all around and shut them down.”
The win placed the ‘Canes in a tie with Putnam County, with each team having a region record of 1-3 and 2-5 overall.
Tomorrow night, Oct. 26, the ‘Canes will continue region play at home when they face the Macon County Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are sporting the same overall record as the ‘Canes and Putnam (2-5), but they do have two region wins, having defeated Crawford County and Putnam, with region losses to Bleckley County and Northeast Macon.
Coach Roberts said, “Macon County is very athletic, they have have a quarterback who runs and throws well and they have a big offensive line, so we’ll have our work cut out for us.”
Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Rose Bowl Field.
