Five Jasper Youth Are Charged In Eatonton Shooting

Three adults were arrested at Jasper County High School this week after an investigation into a shooting Saturday night in Eatonton.

Jaylin Tyree-Cortez Thurman, 18; Dondre Malik Stodghill, 17, and Trey Christopher Britt, 17, all with Jasper County addresses, were arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Subsequent investigation lead to the arrest of two juveniles and both were charged with aggravated assault and are being held at the Regional Youth Detention Center, according to a press release from the Eatonton Police Department. One juvenile is from Jasper County and one is from Newton County.

The arrests stemmed from an incident that occurred Saturday, Nov. 10, shortly before 10 p.m. Four individuals were standing on North Lafayette Street in downtown Eatonton when a red Ford Mustang drove by, and a shot was fired from the car, striking a 16-year-old male juvenile with a small caliber projectile. The victim ran to the police department and reported the incident, and he received medical attention and was subsequently hospitalized, the announcement said.

The victim is reportedly recovering in an area hospital.

The Eatonton Police Department was assisted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 6, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Monticello Police Department, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in solving this case and are working together to fight crime in our community, said Eatonton Police Chief Kent Lawrence.

No one was available to confirm where the gun involved was found.
