Player Hits Tie-Breaker on Head to Beat Out 19

Relative newcomer to The Monticello News football contest Tyler Cooper beat out 19 others with 13 right to win this week’s contest, and collect a $25 prize from Kelly Fox of Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co., sponsor of the week.
Mr. Cooper, a sophomore at Jasper County High School, has played at school once or twice, but this was only the second time he had submitted an entry into The Monticello News football contest. He won by hitting the tie-breaker of 66 on the head in Georgia Tech’s 42-24 trouncing of Duke.
Mr. Cooper is a member of the Hurricane football team, playing defensive end, and hopes to get more playing time in winning games next year.

There was no trick, no rhyme or reason to this week’s contest. Two big upsets didn’t really hurt contest scores, as 20 people got 13 right, and another 44 got 12 right to make the Grand Prize Honor Roll. The professional games seemed to really cause the most problems with lots of players missing the N.Y. Jets beating St. Louis, 27-13.
Mr. Cooper missed on Stanford’s upset of Oregon and Rutgers over Cincinnati, games missed by the majority of contest players.
So, if you didn’t make the honor roll this week, you may have missed your best chance. But, who knows…on any Saturday, Sunday, who knows who will win.
But, time is running out. There are only two more weeks of 2012 football contest after this week.
This is a big rivalry week with Georgia Tech playing at Georgia, South Carolina at Clemson, LSU at Arkansas and Mississippi State at Ole Miss.
Whoever gets the most right this week, subject to the tiebreaker, will collect a $25 prize from Covington Ford, this week’s prize sponsor.
This week’s contest is on page 13 of this week’s newspaper.
