Sharika Pennamon Is West GA Tech’s Player of the Week

West Georgia Tech’s Sharika Pennamon was named the NJCAA Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Women’s Basketball Player of the Week in voting by league coaches, the league office announced Monday.

The Monticello native averaged 13.0 points per game over a three-game period last week. Pennamon also pulled down 5.7 rebounds while dishing out 4.7 assists per game while manning both the point guard and shooting guard positions for head coach Kenny Edwards.

“Sharika plays hard every time she steps on the court,” Edwards said. “She plays aggressively on both side of the ball. Sharika rebounds the ball very well and at a high level from the guard spot. We are in our first year at the program and I couldn’t ask for better player to help build this program.”

Pennamon leads the team in scoring, with 13.4 points per game through the first six games of the season. She also leads the squad in minutes played with 35.6 minutes per contest.

Pennamon come to West Georgia Tech by way of Jasper County High School. She is the daughter of Thaxton and Denise Pennamon of Monticello.

The award was the first given out in the 2012-13 season.
