Mat Cougars Begin Season Saturday

Piedmont Academy’s wrestling program returns to the mat Saturday as they travel to Unity Christian School in Rome.

Varsity and middle school wrestlers will compete for first-year Mat Cougar coach Alvin Hawkes beginning at 9 a.m.

Varsity wrestlers for Piedmont in 2012-2013 include senior Jason Autry, juniors Malik Reid and Mills Smith and sophomore Payden Cantera. Seventh graders Ian Boyd and Mitch Marsh will compete at the middle school level with fifth graders Browning Benton and Owen Brady at the elementary school level.

“We are coming along,” Hawkes said. “We are getting in wrestling condition. We are looking forward to the season.” Piedmont’s wrestlers will also host John Milledge, Rock Springs, Mills Spring and Unity Dec. 4 beginning at 6 p.m.
