Piedmont Basketball Teams Lose Openers
Piedmont Academy began its new varsity basketball season against a familiar opponent last Thursday when the Cougars and Lady Cougars hosted Gatewood.
The Piedmont boys fell 48-20 despite a 10-point effort from Logan Partenza. Chander Burrell added four points while Drew Collins scored three. Zach Beggs added two points in the season opener.
Gatewood jumped out to a 16-4 first quarter lead and took a 30-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Lady Cougars fell 43-24 to Gatewood last Thursday. Hailey Burnham led Piedmont with 15 points while Anna Jones scored five and Heather Tyler and Lanie King both scored two.

The Lady Gators were paced by Khady Dieng who scored game-high 17 points.
Piedmont’s varsity teams also hosted John Milledge Academy Monday. The boys were overwhelmed by the JMA Trojans 62-33. Burrell led the Cougars with 14 points while Partenza added nine. Britton Bailey finished with four points while Hank Strickland and Zach Wilson both scored two.
The Lady Cougars lost a competitive 34-29 game. Burnham scored 15 points to lead Piedmont while Jones finished with seven. Savannah McGinnis and Heather Tyler both scored two points.
Piedmont’s varsity teams will host Brentwood Friday at 6 p.m. and travel to Gatewood Saturday for games beginning at 2 p.m.
