Ollie Marjorie Smith Plummer

Ollie Marjorie Smith Plummer, 91, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 in Monticello.

Born February 4, 1921 in Bailey, N.C., to Robert Lee and Grace Goodnight Smith, she was a 1938 graduate of Bailey High School. She and Floyd Elmore Plummer were married on September 5, 1948 and resided in Kannapolis, where she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Upon retirement in 1985, they moved to Carolina Beach, where they enjoyed life at the beach until Floyd’s death in 1989.

During the next five years she divided time at the beach with months assisting her sister, Lillie Mae Smith, with the care of their mother, Grace, in Salisbury, who lived until 1995 attaining the age of 100. In 1994, Mrs. Plummer moved to Raleigh, N.C. to be closer to her children. From her home at Bishops Park, she attended Hayes Barton Methodist Church, plays, concerts, and NCSU basketball games.

In 2001, Mrs. Plummer moved to Trinity Oaks Senior Community in Salisbury, N.C. She resided there until 2004 when she returned to Raleigh to live with her daughter, Janet. In declining health, she moved to The Retreat in Monticello in 2006, then residence of her son, Gordon.

Survivors include her son, D. Gordon Plummer and his partner, Rod Perry; her daughter, Janet Grace Plummer and her partner, Brenon Day; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Withers Smith; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Richard Lee Smith and Addison Neal Smith, and her sister, Lillie Mae Smith.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at at 1 p.m. at Whitley’s Funeral Home Annex Chapel with the Rev. Judy White officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
