Tommy Davis Wins Contest With 11 Right

Tommy Davis was the final weekly winner of The Monticello News football contest, and picked up a $25 prize from Janell Wild at Hamilton State Bank, this week’s sponsor.

Mr. Davis is originally from Monticello, but currently resides in Dublin, and made the trip up for his photo and prize money Tuesday.

Mr. Davis was excited to win the contest as he said, “I’ve been playing [the contest] for seven years regularly, and occasionally before that. But I’ve never won. I call my mom, Janet Davis, each week for the list of games and she turns in my entry form.”

Mr. Davis’ father, the late Roy Davis, was an avid sports fan, who played the contest every week. He had wins to his name, and Mrs. Davis has also won. But this was the younger Mr. Davis’ first time to win, and he was excited.

Mr. Davis was the only person to correctly guess as many as 11 which was the least of any week this season, but enough for Mr. Davis’ win. There were also three players who got 10 right, but the average among other players with correct guesses was about 5.

No names other than Mr. Davis’ were added to the Honor Roll this week, and therefore the final Honor Roll is listed here, and the number of time each name will be entered into a drawing for the Chick-fil-a Bowl tickets. The game will feature LSU vs. Clemson and the prize is four tickets and pregame passes.

This week contest players need to check the honor roll and verify that their number is correct. If someone has a discretion, they are asked to know which week(s) they had 12 or more correct and to call Hannah Pope at The News for verification and changes before 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17. The Grand Prize drawing will be held Monday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. at The News office, 237 West Washington St.
