‘Cane Basketball Teams Lose

The Monticello varsity boys basketball team lost Tuesday night to Northeast Macon 63-59 in what was a good close game until the final buzzer. No individual scoring was available at press time.

The Lady ’Canes also lost to Northeast on Tuesday with the final, 55-37. This was the Lady Canes first loss of the season. Several of the Lady Canes suffered from injuries recently and hope to be recovering soon.

The Monticello Hurricanes fell short Saturday against GMC High School with a 56-43 final.

“We played solid defense throughout the game. We did not shoot very well from the field; we attempted 71 shots and made only 17 of them, which is about 23 percent, said Coach Ernest Scott. “We shot 8 of 16 from the free throw. We left a lot of points on the floor.”

The leading scorers were Qua Thurmond with 9 points and 12 rebounds, Jaylan Sands and Jordan Stone, also each added 9.

JaQuavious Standifer had 4 points and 6 rebounds, Cordea Dennis, Quinton Standifer and Tra Jackson each added 3. Chris Porter and Quintavious Sanders each chipped in with one point.

Both varsity and JV play at Taylor County this Friday, Dec. 14 at 4:30 p.m. They play at home Saturday, Dec. 15 vs. Jones Co, at 3 p.m.
