Phyllis Norwood Is Recognized for Service
Phyllis Norwood received a warm welcome from her family and past Board of Education members at her final meeting after 19 years of serving on the board.
Mrs. Norwood was defeated in July by Erin Lynch and will take the seat vacated by Mrs. Norwood.
In a surprise reception, Mrs. Norwood was joined by her husband and three of her sons and their families.

Those that served with Mrs. Norwood previously were in attendance and offered gracious thanks and memories of her during their tenure. Both Don Kelly and Joel Gaston spoke on her behalf along with sitting members Bobby Norris, Paul Kelly, Shannon Barton, and Lewis Rice.
Superintendent Mike Newton also told of his appreciation of her both now and when he was a teacher some years ago.
In other action, the board voted to hire, Susan Smith, PEC teacher at Jasper Co. Middle School (JCMS); Zach Norris, Athletic Training Assistant; Kerri Norris, secretary for Jasper County High School (JCHS); Pam Edge, Assistant Principal JCHS; Lakeishia Ammons, Bus Driver; and Warrdean Davis, bus monitor. They also accepted the resignation of Thelma Sharese Colbert, JCMS teacher.
