Middle School ‘Cane Boys Are First in League
The Middle School ’Canes basketball team started the year off with a loss to Putnam County on a buzzer beater, but has followed that loss with six straight wins, putting them in the first place position in the PAC League at the mid-point of the season.
Coaches Yelberton Frazier, Rufus Whitlock, and Tyrone Dennis have been working hard with these young men and the hard work has paid off.
Coach Whitlock has worked with these boys during the summer and thinks that is a key to the success. “These young men have learned to play together over the summer and it has really helped them during the season.” says Coach Whitlock.
They play a fast paced pressing game which utilizes the quickness and speed of the team. Coach Frazier states, “This team is really special and has the possibility to do great things if they continue to improve.” Mr. Frazier stresses to the team that there are many areas to improve and they need to concentrate on those as they prepare for the second half of the season.
The girl’s team has continued to improve as Coach Stephanie Scott and Coach Steven Hopper work and stress fundamentals with the girls.
Both teams are playing well and are looking forward to the next game at Social Circle on Friday, Jan. 4, according to a release from the athletic department.
