Basketball ‘Canes Defeat Lamar

The Monticello Hurricanes lost by one point 68-67, Tuesday night at Crawford Co. Quitavius Sanders had 14 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Jordan Stone with 13 points. Qua Thurmond had 10 points and 14 rebounds, Quinton Standifer added 9 points, Jaylan Sands had 8 points, JaQuavious Standifer, 6, and Tra Jackson had 5 points.

They also hosted the Lamar County Trojans last Saturday in what was their third region game of the season defeating the Trojans 47-44.

In region play the ’Canes are 1-2; with the victory over Lamar being the teams first region win of the season.

The ’Canes are currently in second place in their sub-region.

“We played a tough Trojan team at home. Nothing was easy for us during the game we faced a little adversity in the first half but in the second half we overcame that adversity and pulled out the win,” said Head Coach Ernest Scott. “We played a great defensive game with far less turnovers than in previous match ups.”

Stone lead all scorers with 22 points and 6 rebounds, J. Standifer had 8 points and 7 rebounds, Thurmond had 6 points and 10 rebounds, Q. Standifer had 5 points, Jackson had 4 points and 7 rebounds, and Chris Porter had 2 points.

There will be two home games this week, tomorrow, Jan. 11 the ’Canes host Macon Co. and Saturday, Jan. 12 against Jackson with all of the teams playing. The varsity games begin at 6 p.m.
