Allen Dozier Layson

Allen Dozier Layson, 83, a native of Monticello, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, in Huntersville, N.C.

Born December 10, 1929, Mr. Layson was the son of Allen Seals and Lila Floyd Layson. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1952. Mr. Layson was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Uniroyal and Anchor Continental. He was an active member of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C., for over 40 years, and enjoyed many hobbies including genealogy, gemstone faceting, and woodcarving.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Rutledge Layson, second wife, Betty Will McReynolds Layson, and a sister, Martha Sue Layson Lee.

Mr. Layson is survived by his sons, Charles Allen Layson, of Atlanta, and Lindsay Harrison Moose and his wife Terri of Arlington, VA; daughter, Deborah Layson Elvington and her husband Fulton of Huntersville, N.C.; sister, Gail Speering and her husband David of Asheboro, N.C. and nine grandchildren.
