Local FBLA Students Excel at Region Competition

FBLA MEMBERS, VOLUNTEERS POSE WITH MEDALS AT END OF DAY MONDAY

More than 10 Jasper County High School (JCHS) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) members will advance to the state FBLA competition in March by virtue of their wins at the region contest held Monday at JCHS.

The local school hosted the Region 14 Conference for the third consecutive year, with more than 325 students from 14 surrounding counties participating.

Local students claiming first place awards were Devon Andrews and Quinton Standifer in Emerging Business Issues.

Other local students advancing to the state contest were Levi Ford, second, Business Math; Cheyenne Gray, second, Intro to Business Communication and Intro to Technology Concepts; and Brandi McMichael, second, Word Processing I; Regan Duke, fourth, Intro to Technology Concepts; Devon Andrews, seventh, Intro to Business Communication; Autumn Dennon, ninth, Intro to Business Communication; Riley Smith, ninth, Intro to Technology Concepts; and Julius Matchett, tenth, Intro to Technology Concepts.

Other local FBLA members placing in the top 10 in their events but not qualifying for state competition were Tashae Boykin, first, Help Desk; Cortez Williams, second, Help Desk; Beth Hart, second, Word Processing II; Meghan Kinard, second, Client Service; James Sampson, third, Impromptu Speaking; and Star Caldwell and Allison Scroggs, third, Business Ethics.

Also, Autumn Dennon, fourth, Public Speaking I; Emily Axman, fifth; Job Interview; Levi Ford, Brandon Stewart and Jacob Fields, fifth, Entrepreneurship, Quinton Standifer, sixth, Business Math; Wyatt Rabon and Tony Shumate, sixth, Desktop Publishing; and Levi Ford, tenth, Individual Entrepreneurship.

FBLA members competing but not placing in the top 10 were Aaron Newton, Kolby DeGarmo, Quincy Standifer, Jacob Cavender, Caleb Usry, Anna Parker, Hannah Fisher, Hannah Van Horn, and Chad Cain.

Those who participated in the conference working as volunteers were Alexis Evers, Shelby Parris, Peyton Partenza, Garrett Scroggs, Lane Thomas and Claire Cunard.

JCHS FBLA also received the second place award for the All Star Sweepstakes which means that JCHS has participated in every FBLA event possible since the state conference in 2012. JCHS also received third place in the region for the membership award.

FBLA advisers Mrs. Amy Scroggs and Mrs. Johnnie Sue Moore expressed appreciated to those in the community who volunteered to judge, administer tests, keep time, tally scores and monitor students.

“We could not have hosted this event without the help of our fellow teachers and members of the community,” Mrs. Scroggs explained. “We had more than 50 people volunteering to help us, and their support made all the difference.”

Those students advancing to state have already begun preparing for the event which will be held in March in Atlanta.
