Man Is Arrested for Gun Theft

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) issued an arrest warrant on February 1, for the arrest of Michael Samuel Petty of Jackson, on the charge of burglary in the first degree for his role in the theft of 26 firearms, ammunition and a computer valued in excess of $14,000, during a burglary which took place on November 18, 2012 at a residence on Hwy 16 west, as reported on the front page of The Monticello News on November 21, 2012.

Mr. Petty is currently in the Butts County Jail on unrelated charges, however according to information on the arrest warrant, on January 31, 2013 he confessed to the burglary and said he drove other parties to the location of the burglary and assisted in removing the stolen items and transferred them to a location in Butts County where they were sold.

According to a spokesperson for the JCSO the investigation is continuing concerning other suspects and the recovery of the stolen items.

• On February 4 a resident on Mason Street reported the theft of a pink Apple Iphone and a Sony Play Station.

• On February 3 a property owner on Wild Road in North Jasper County reported that a red Hooper 16 foot Tandum Axle Trailer was stolen from his property on November 17, 2012.

Also, the JCSO reported the following arrests during the period of January 29 through February 4:

• Julio Sanchez, 29, Mansfield—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and stop sign violation.

• William Justin Wilson, 21, Monticello—possession of methamphetamine, probation violation, battery and obstruction of an officer.

• James Barry McDonald, 49, Monticello—criminal damage to property in the second degree, reckless conduct and simple battery.

• Shaun Ivey McCurry, 34, Conyers—probation violation.

• Teresa Marie Schwartz, 24, Carrolton—public drunkenness and open container.

• Jonathan Matthew Tallent, 20, Covington—driving while license suspended or revoked, tire violation and probation violation.

• Flint Walker White, 42, Social Circle—probation violation.

• Cody Thomas Pirkle, 18, Covington—stop sign violation and driving while license suspended or revoked.

During this same period deputies with the JCSO responded to 248 calls for service including 129 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, 18 subject needs officer, 12 alarm, nine accident, seven threatening/harassing calls, six attempt to serve warrant, five each checking location and assist motorist, four each domestic, pick up prisoner/subject and abandoned vehicle, three each speeding auto, livestock on road, mechanical break down, fire/structure, theft by taking, four wheeler and road hazard, two burglary, one each fight, dog disturbance, prowler report, direct traffic, escort or convoy, fire/other, heart attack, child abuse/molestation, deliver emergency message, trespassing and argument.

During the period mentioned above the Monticello Police Department did not report any arrests, however they did report 48 calls for service including 12 stopping suspicious person/vehicle, six each escort or convoy and subject needs officer, five direct traffic, three assist motorist, two mechanical break down, one each fight, dog disturbance, prowler report, domestic, courtesy ride, livestock on road, fire/structure, assist invalid, deliver emergency message, property found, trespassing, fraud/theft by deceiving, 911 hang up and sick.
