Lady Cougars Advance in Region Tourney

The Piedmont Academy Lady Cougars won their opening game in the Region 4-AA tournament Tuesday defeating Furtah Prep 33-13.

Hailey Burnham finished with 14 points while Lanie King added nine points. Anna Jones contributed six points while Heather Tyler and Haley Tyler both scored two.

The Lady Cougars led 12-2 at halftime and 19-5 after the third quarter. The Piedmont girls have now defeated Furtah three times this season.

The team, who is now 14-11 overall, will continue play in the region tournament this week with the next game set for today, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.

The 2012-2013 season came to an end for the Piedmont boys Tuesday during the region tournament being played at Flint River Academy.

The Cougars fell 63-43 to Furtah Prep despite 20 points by Logan Partenza. Zach Wilson and Chander Burrell both finished with six points while Zach Beggs added five and Drew Collins and Hank Strickland added three points each.

Piedmont trailed 23-16 at halftime and 42-30 after the third quarter.
