Birdie L. Smith

Birdie L. Smith, 93, died Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Medical Center of Georgia in Macon.

Mrs. Smith was born in Woodville, Ala., on November 18, 1919 to the late Robert and Jennie E. Williams.

Her life was committed to Christ at an early age and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Woodville, Ala. She received her high school education in Huntsville, Ala., and later moved to Nashville, Tenn., She also attended Tennessee State University and completed a Bachelor of Science Degree.

After completion of her degree, Mrs. Smith moved to Monticello, in 1948. She was employed as an elementary school teacher for 31 years. During these years she did further studies at Ft. Valley State College.

Birdie Williams joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Eddie Smith on January 8, 1954. After making her home in Monticello, she became a member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church where she served in many different capacities. She was also affiliated with many community activities

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Flauzell Binford and Mrs. Florance W. Jointer, both of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother–in-law, Mr. Samuel Gude of Warner Robins; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Zenobia Gude, of Warner Robins; and several nieces, nephews, a spiritual daughter, Ms. Joyce E. Felton and other relatives and friends.

Services for Mrs. Smith are set for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church , 835 Hillsboro Street in Monticello. Burial will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Shady Dale.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Monticello is in charge of final arrangements.
