Fred Solomon

Fred Solomon, 64, of Newborn, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at Morgan Memorial Hospital in Madison.

Mr. Solomon was born July 13, 1948 to the late Joseph “Joe” Solomon and Addie Mae Robinson in Morgan County.

He received his early education and high school training in the public school system of Morgan County. He was a graduate of Pearl High School in Madison.

He was a man of many talents, as his work skills covered many different areas. He worked faithfully for 45 years at Meriweather Farming Dairies. His dedication to his family and his work was immeasurable.

He joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at a young age; he also was known to worship at Shiloh Baptist Church occasionally along with his wife Rose.

Mr. Solomon loved his family and friends, he wasn’t a stranger to anyone, and he could always be found being friendly with a welcoming smile. He enjoyed his hobby of tinkering with electronics and fixing things that were broken. He was known for always having a video recorder on hand to capture those “unforgettable” moments during family gatherings and special occasions. His joyous presence and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Solomon.

Survivors include his wife Rosa Lee Solomon of Newborn; two children, Travais Solomon of Marietta and Alicia Solomon-Henderson of Lithonia; two grandchildren, Trey and Tramaine Solomon of Marietta; three sisters, Hattie Mae Williams of Monticello, Betty Jefferies of Shady Dale, and Margaret Smith of Madison; two brothers, Rev. Lucious Solomon of Oxford, and James Malvin Solomon of Covington; several inlaws and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A service was held Sunday, Feb. 24 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Shady Dale. Revs. C. Bryant, Lucius Solomon, and Jerry Williams, officiated. Interment was held at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery and repast at Shiloh Baptist Fellowship Hall.

Pallbearers included Johnny Williams, Rodney Solomon, Kenny Jefferies, Wayne Solomon, Michael Solomon, and Larry Dudley. Flower attendants included Sharnitra Baker, LaTarsha Baker, Adrienne Kelly, Sharon Jefferies, Quinanaz Griggs, Shauna Solomon, Veronica Smith-Shedd, Shelia Dyer, Keba Shy, Connie Walden, Patricia Solomon, and Wanda “Dee Dee” Smith.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
