Piedmont To Field ‘C-Team’ Baseball

The Piedmont Academy C-Team baseball squad, consisting of players in grades 5-8, will begin its season Saturday at Nathanael Greene in Siloam.

Piedmont will also field a “B-Team” squad this spring with players ranging from grades 8-10.

“We have a solid group of eighth grade players returning,” C-Team head coach Dan Funt said.

Returning eighth grade players include Joseph Anderson, Wyatt Galloway, Michael Edwards, Tyler Mills, Zach Mooney, Mack Brady and Danny Ramsdell along with newcomer Nick Maynard.

Seventh grade players will include Talon Anglin and Kevin Davis with sixth graders Caden Clark, Gage Wilborn and Jordan Pace. Fifth grade players include Browning Benton, Owen Brady, Zach Spivey and Payton Wallace.

Piedmont will compete in a C-Team league along with Mt. de Sales, Stratford, Tattnall Square, Windsor and Westfield. The league will feature playoffs beginning in mid-April.

The first Piedmont C-Team league game will be March 6 at Mt. de Sales in Macon for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.

“I am really excited about the upcoming season,” Funt said. “ We have a solid group of older players, which will be complimented by a group of younger players. We will have to improve everyday with the difficult schedule that we face.

“I know that the players will work hard and improve everyday. We have been working hard since the beginning of February, and I am looking forward to playing some games.”
